Wellness treatments are becoming very popular these days. The term “wellness treatment” is a relatively new one and refers to all the treatments which are given at spa centres and wellness centres like spa, body massage, acupressure, acupuncture, etc. Since our life has become very hectic today than it was a few decades ago, there has to be a lot of relaxation. These wellness treatments can go a long way in helping an individual in relaxing and ridding one of worries and tensions.

The treatments can be done over a short period like an hour in the sauna or over an extended period like a week in a luxury spa. Either ways, it is very important to relax and let one’s body also relax and these wellness centres provide a medium for it. A spa treatment once in a while can do wonders to the individual’s well being and mental state. Similarly all the other treatments also have their benefits. Wellness treatments in today’s modern world are not restricted only to a select few, instead, everyone can afford one treatment once in a month as they have very affordable prices.

Detox

In a way, a wellness treatment for a week can help in detoxifying the body both physically and mentally. It gets a positive energy flowing through the body. After such a treatment one feels revitalized and full of life. It rids the mind of all negativity and calms the body. The food provided is also organically grown and vegetarian. The complete experience of staying in a wellness centre for a week is very rewarding. It is also necessary for some people, who work in high pressure jobs, where there is a constant pressure of meeting deadlines and getting the job done. Without wellness treatments, it would be very difficult to de-stress in this fast moving world.

TV is the favourite pastime of more than half the people in USA. Similarly it can be said about the rest of the world. The TV or “idiot box” as it is sometimes known can be both good and bad, depending on its usage. One or two hours of TV every day, watching interesting TV programs on channels like National Geographic or Discovery, can actually boost one’s knowledge.

Watching serials depends on the quality of the serial and number of hours spent watching TV. If somebody is watching TV for hours and hours, it actually is very unproductive and kills creativity and desire to work. Watching TV for long hours is even worse than sleeping, as sleeping consumes more calories than watching TV and also rejuvenates the body for work.

While on the other hand, if it is watched for a short duration to relax from a certain activity, it can be very helpful in taking one’s mind off things and helping in calming one’s mind. But more often than not, once someone starts watching TV it is difficult to stop. It takes real self-control to stop watching TV and get to work. So, watching TV should be done at the end of the day after all work is done to de-stress from the day’s work.

Escape from everyday life

Watching television can be thought of escaping from everyday life, as it virtually switches off the active part of your brain and you think only about what little there is in the TV program being watched. In a way, it can be considered good as it doesn’t prompt you to think about your worries but it also doesn’t rid them. So, watching TV in moderation can be productive.

A spiritual vacation is a kind of vacation in which one connects with our inner being, the spirit or the soul as it is commonly known. There are a lot of places where people go for spiritual vacations and depend from individual to individual. There are Art of Living Centres, Osho meditation centre and ashrams in India among others which provide with a place to connect with one’s spirit. They have a routine which must be strictly followed and promise the individual of being closer to his soul and have a heightened sense of awareness in return. Spirituality is when one connects with one’s spirit and recognizes a higher being and higher purpose in life, over which he has no control.

Being spiritual has a lot of advantages. One can be sure that someone is watching over and that everything happens for a good reason. It also provides a sense of self confidence in the sense that it makes us think about a higher purpose for which we have been created and gives us a sense of direction. Some people take spiritual vacations to far off destinations like the forests of Japan or the Himalaya mountains of Tibet. The feeling of living alone without anybody helping alone allows us to think of a lot of stuff which one wouldn’t normally think about and helps us in getting closer to our spiritual self.

Spirituality vs. Religion

Generally, a spiritual person is confused with being a religious person. Spirituality and religion are two completely different things. One recognizes that there is a higher being and there is a higher purpose to life while the other tries to describe objectively what the higher being is and higher purpose is by giving it a name (religion) and has a certain set of doctrines on which it is based.

Movies come in the category of escape from life on weekends, as it is time consuming to watch a movie on a weekday as there is other important work to be done. Movies, today, are generally one and half to two hours long. Most good movies leave the viewer with an after effect in which he is thinking about the movie and dreaming about how all the possible situations could have gone and unfolded and tries to connect some of them with his/her life. Some movies are meant to be watched, enjoyed and forgotten.

While others, you cannot forget even if you want to. Different people like different genres of movie. Most people would enjoy a romantic comedy or an action thriller on a Saturday night. Watching a movie involves the viewer completely and transports him into the world of the movie. It can be a very good stress buster. Most movies are generally good to watch but certain kind of movies is not liked by many people and does nothing for mental relaxation. One such category could be horror movies in which there is a lot of bloodshed. It might leave one feeling scared and disgusted. So the choice of the movie is very important.

Choosing a good movie

It is not that difficult to find a good movie. One only has to go and search the web for reviews of recent movies to find which movie is good and which one bad. Alternatively, if there are no good movies in the theatres, one can always rent a good movie from the local video parlour and nowadays, they can be streamed online for a small fee. A good movie, after a week of hard work, really rejuvenates the soul and relaxes the mind.

Meditation means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. But the most common picture that comes to mind is a person sitting on the floor cross legged with closed eyes and hands on his knees in a deep state of internal self-awareness and oblivious to the outside world. When someone is meditating, they are usually in a heightened state of concentration and filter out all the worldly distractions. Most people meditate for an hour but it may also be longer than that or even shorter than that, varies from individual to individual.

Why meditate?

Today’s world is full of people who are slaves to an inanimate object called money. People would work 20 hours a day just to get a little more of it. In this age of cutthroat competition, one just doesn’t feel that there is enough time to do all the things expected of us, and that is where cynicism and negativity starts filling our minds. Instead of feeling depressed because there is not enough time to do what we want, we could just take a few minutes out of 24 hours in a day and meditate. Meditating 15-20 minutes every day is known to have a long lasting and positive impact over an individual.

One is generally more relaxed and calmer. It also gives a sense of positivity and a ready to take on the world kind of feeling. Yoga and pranayam, which started as a practice by the Indians, has slowly morphed into a religious practice by the Hindus. It is a form of meditation in which one stretches and relaxes the whole body and there are specific chants which one has to say while doing yoga, which helps in relaxation. It is a very popular way of exercising and meditation combined into one. Meditation, if done on a daily basis, has a definite constructive impact on an individual’s well being and happiness.

People generally define love as a spontaneous emotion and something which cannot be searched for. But that was the old view; the modern view is that love can be found if one searches for it in the right places. One can join group activities which one likes to do and clubs where likeminded people meet and expect to find the love of their life or he can try an online dating service.

An online dating service is basically a platform where one can find different people from different parts of the world having different hobbies. The good thing is that it is completely searchable so that we can search for a person who matches the criteria which we look for in our better half. People post their pictures and their preferences and based on that other people contact them. Once a person likes another, they can exchange phone numbers and take the conversation to the next level. They meet each other and more often than not, like each other (at least for a while), and may decide to continue their relationship or move on to the next. It is not as simple as it sounds, but more or less so.

Express love vs. Traditional love

Previously, love meant an attraction one feels to someone who we meet in everyday life and the other person also felt in a similar way. And love was allowed to blossom, where people took each other on candle lit dinners, to watch plays, to the amusement park, etc. But today all that love happens over the phone and very less time is spent in each other’s company, thanks to the hectic life styles which people like to maintain. A true comparison can never be made as the circumstances earlier were very different from what they are now, but one can only think how traditional love would have been.

A woman’s shelter is a place where a woman can stay temporarily when she is trying to escape from a violent situation at home or from a rape. Cases of violence and rape are constantly in the news against young females and are not dealt with in the right way most of the times. The majority of the times, the reason is that the woman is afraid to complain against the person who has put her in that situation as it is somebody close or somebody with power.

A woman’s shelter can be a refuge for a woman to stay in for some time and collect her thoughts before she can take the appropriate course of action. She can either complain to the authorities or she can escape from the domestic shelter where she was abused and go to a new place for a fresh new beginning. This place gives her enough time to recover from her abuse and think about what she wants to do in the future. Apart from providing a shelter, these places also provide with counselling to recover from the trauma and education about the crimes for which a woman can go to the law and seek justice.

Trauma

The trauma that is caused to a victim of domestic violence is very great and takes a while before the woman can recover and see things as they are. In some cases it is so extreme that it scars the victim for the rest of his life and she cannot forget it. But most of the times, with the right counselling and guidance the victim can overcome this trauma and come back to a sane state of mind. Woman’s shelters can be found online as most of them have a website or at least a mention somewhere on the web.

In this age of technology, where one can do anything and everything on mobile phones from watching live television to applying for a job, is it really worth breaking up on the phone? We discuss the pros and cons of breaking up on mobile phones in this article. On the one hand, breaking up with your boyfriend or girlfriend via an SMS avoids a lot of emotional drama, the flipside is that the breakup might not go so smoothly and it might backfire in the form of a negative image in the society and one might come to regret it later on. But nowadays breaking up via SMS has become the norm.

Most old school people regard breaking up on the phone as insensitive and cowardly. As that might be, it is very convenient and can be done at a second’s notice. And the best part is you don’t have to worry about the reaction of the other person and keep losing sleep about what has to be said and how it has to be said.

Outcome

The outcome might be a lot of different things depending on whether it is a guy or a girl, their current emotional state, their ability to handle such kind of situations, etc. A typical outcome is the other person calling up and speaking a lot of unpleasant words and not ever calling back. It can also go to one extreme in which the other person might wish to remain a friend, or the other extreme in which he/she comes to your house or someplace where he/she knows you will be there and creates such a bad scene that it is not forgotten for a few months.

Either ways, breaking up via the phone by sending an SMS has its pros and cons, and they are pretty much balanced at the moment. So, it really depends on the individual’s personal choice.

Books are sometimes referred to as a man’s best buddy because they are unemotional, unresponsive and always waiting to be read. Books are of various types ranging from fictional novels to exercise workbooks. After a long day’s work, a good book is really a treat to read. It transports the reader to another world and the reader is immersed in it until he chooses to come out of it and read the rest later. It is also a good way to pass time, as it gives happiness and a sense of fulfilment.

Books are also great to escape the daily pressures of life and settle down to a quiet and relaxing read. The best part of reading a book is it can be done virtually anywhere, from the comfort of your couch to the soothing environment of the beach. Most people read books for two main reasons: studying or pleasure. The former is a taxing and strenuous activity and leaves the person feeling drained out after a study session. The latter is a very relaxing and entertaining activity.

Pleasure reading

Fictional novels are mostly read for pleasure as are comic books. These books can be read at a leisurely pace leaving behind all the worries in the world. The most entertaining and exciting books are hard to put down once started, and hence shouldn’t be started in the middle of some important work. Books should be read to relax and enjoyed on a lazy Sunday afternoon or on a rainy day when nothing worthwhile can be accomplished. In recent times, books have also been converted into the electronic format as have a dozen other things.

E-books, as they are popularly referred to are most often read from the screen of a laptop or desktop which is a little tedious. All said and done, reading is a very good pastime and escape, whether it is done from a book or laptop.
